Christie's Raises $1.36 Million for Eco Charities

Nicki Minaj performs for Eco Charities

The crowd took the eco theme seriously at Christie's second annual Bid to Save the Earth live auction and fashion show last night. "I wanted to wear something that celebrates lush greenery and a healthy earth," said Michelle Harper, wearing a hat adorned with a plethora of leaves. Emcee Seth Meyers pointed out that the planet's health is not in good shape at the moment, referring to the wave of recent disasters and crazy storms, but the SNL writer and performer managed to wring a joke out of the situation. "There were days where the blizzards were so bad that certain Chinese food restaurants wouldn't deliver," he noted. After weathering one of New York's harshest winters ever, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, and Rachel Roy couldn't help but laugh.

The evening heated up when guests began bidding on fantasy experiences, like a $35,000 plane ride with Harrison Ford or a day with, "um, Bill Clinton, hello," as Christian Cota put it. Then the likes of Karolina Kurkova, Jessica Stam, and Coco Rocha took to the catwalk to model looks from the Runway to Green collection, which Net-a-Porter, one of the evening's sponsors, is selling on its site. And that wasn't all, folks. Nicki Minaj hit the stage for an unannounced performance sporting a green bouffant updo. "Nicki—at Christie's—is amazing," Thakoon Panichgul said. "I'm obsessed with her." The evening's live auction raised $1.36 million for various charities, including the Central Park Conservancy, Conservation International, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Oceana.
