"From The Runway" Thakoon

Rococo Masai. When Thakoon Panichgul was doing research for his new Fall collection, he observed similarities between the costumes of Versailles and the clothes worn by the Kenyan tribe. Sound like a stretch? The designer made the connection in the first look out: a puffer jacket with detachable panniers à la Marie Antoinette, but cut from a red and blue plaid ripped from a photo of African warriors. Panichgul kept the juxtapositions going from beginning to end: A short-in-front, long-in-back ball skirt came whipped up from a yellow floral batik, and a bustled vest in that buffalo plaid was worn over a pair of cropped pants in an African paisley print. (Thakoon, it must be said, was an early adopter of mismatched prints.)

The irony is that clothes with such high, far-flung associations could end up looking so connected to the street, so sporty. Pointing out before the show how the pink taffeta he used for a down vest and a drawstring-hem skirt resembles the nylon from a windbreaker or a tracksuit, Panichgul described the collection as "fanciful, but pavement." The fact that that came across in the gilded environs of the Plaza hotel only goes to prove that this was his freshest, most alive collection in a while.

Christie's Raises $1.36 Million for Eco Charities

Nicki Minaj performs for Eco Charities

The crowd took the eco theme seriously at Christie's second annual Bid to Save the Earth live auction and fashion show last night. "I wanted to wear something that celebrates lush greenery and a healthy earth," said Michelle Harper, wearing a hat adorned with a plethora of leaves. Emcee Seth Meyers pointed out that the planet's health is not in good shape at the moment, referring to the wave of recent disasters and crazy storms, but the SNL writer and performer managed to wring a joke out of the situation. "There were days where the blizzards were so bad that certain Chinese food restaurants wouldn't deliver," he noted. After weathering one of New York's harshest winters ever, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, and Rachel Roy couldn't help but laugh.

Michael Kors hanging out at Christie's second annual Bid to Save the Earth live auction and fashion show

The evening heated up when guests began bidding on fantasy experiences, like a $35,000 plane ride with Harrison Ford or a day with, "um, Bill Clinton, hello," as Christian Cota put it. Then the likes of Karolina Kurkova, Jessica Stam, and Coco Rocha took to the catwalk to model looks from the Runway to Green collection, which Net-a-Porter, one of the evening's sponsors, is selling on its site. And that wasn't all, folks. Nicki Minaj hit the stage for an unannounced performance sporting a green bouffant updo. "Nicki—at Christie's—is amazing," Thakoon Panichgul said. "I'm obsessed with her." The evening's live auction raised $1.36 million for various charities, including the Central Park Conservancy, Conservation International, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Oceana.

Style Tips

On an everyday basis a man should look his best.  Even if your best for that particular day was sweats and a Tshirt. Hell I've seen these items executed exquisitely by strange passerbyers.  Some of my lady friends can also vouch that they've seen a man or two in his bummy state, yet they would've handed over the digits regardless. Poppin my collar.  So it can and has been done.  The topic of this discussion is simply paying attention to minor details. Which is an important point. Peep the new Billionaire Boys Club "Blastivo Panama Hat" and add it to your wardrobe.  Pin that one on your piece board.  A.W.T. Out!

This Blastivo Panama hat is a new release from Billionaire Boys Club for Spring/Summer 2011. With a tightly woven straw design, the cap features a deep dimple on the crest and has a medium-width brim. Additionally, a cloth band encircling the hat features a stylish red and white zigzag stitching. Available in beige or black, the hat is priced at ¥17,850 (approximately $215 USD) and can be purchased through select Billionaire Boys Club store locations.

Why Can't Liam Gallagher Just Let Jay-Z Be Great? (PHOTOS)

Here we go again.

Oasis front man Liam Gallagher said in a recent interview with Spin magazine that he thinks people who wear Jay-Z's Rocawear line will be arrested. "You're going to be f*cking arrested wearing his gear and you're going to pull a really nice-looking bird wearing mine," Gallagher said.

This comes three years after the two musicians famously feuded after Jay-Z headlined the Glastonbury Festival and Gallagher was asked what he thought about the rapper's clothing line.

Back in '08, Jay-Z responded to Gallagher questioning the legitimacy of him headlining the mud-soaked Glastonbury Festival by opening his set with a cover of Oasis' hit "Wonderwall." He repeated the act last year at Coachella.

Gallagher has a clothing line of his own called Pretty Green.

M is 4 MOGUL Cocktail of the Week "Bourbon Cobbler"

You'll need:

3 oz. Bourbon

½ oz. Simple Syrup

Lemon

Chilled Glassware of your choice

Cocktail Mixing Shaker

Ice

1.)  Chill a glass either by having it ready in the freezer or by adding ice and water to the glass while you are preparing the cocktail.

2.)  Pour the Bourbon & Simple Syrup into a glass with ice or Cocktail Mixing Shaker with ice. (Use a decent Bourbon, like Jim Beam, to make the cocktail, as the better the ingredients the better the final drink. However, do not use very expensive products as typically they are wasted when all mixed together. These should be reserved for drinking alone.)

3.)  Shake well in the cocktail mixing shaker

4.)  (If the cocktail glass has the chilled water & ice, used previously to chill the glass, dispose of the mixture now. The glass should be empty and cold.)

5.)  Pour into the chilled glass. Lemon as a garnish.

Jay is 4 MOGUL- Jay-Z’s $450 million Business Empire By Daniel Gross

This is a superstar economy, in which A-listers live large while minor leaguers struggle. Hedge fund managers like John Paulson may rack up big returns, CEOs like Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman, Sachs bag huge compensation packages, and all-star baseball players like Alex Rodriguez ink nine-figure contracts. But few of them can match the combination of fame, public acclaim and monetary value that Shawn Corey Carter has racked up.

Who?

Amid the carnage of the music industry in the past decade, Jay-Z has managed to parlay artistic success into financial fortune valued at up to $450 million, according to Forbes. Jay-Z's many business successes (and few failures) are described in a new book by Forbes writer Zack O'Malley Greenburg, entitled Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went from Street Corner to Corner Office.

In 2010 alone, he earned $63 million, more than all but seven CEOs of public companies, writes Greenburg. While the money came primarily from touring, Jay-Z has a business interests ranging from music to nightclubs, from restaurants to apparel, from sneakers to a chunk of the New Jersey Nets. As Greenburg and I discuss in the video, the Brooklyn native, who spent a chunk of his teens selling drugs before devoting himself full time to rap, has "a unique ability to set trends and profit from them, almost to an astronomical level."

Early on, Jay-Z displayed an acumen for business. In 1994, unable to find a company to produce his debut records, Jay-Z, Damon Dash and a silent partner founded their own label, Roc-A-Fella Records. And when a distributor agreed to take on the album, he negotiated a deal to retain ownership of the master recordings.

In the late 1990s, he discovered that sales of Iceberg apparel rose after he began including references to them in his songs. But when he went to Iceberg and asked for an endorsement deal, the company demurred. Instead, he started his own apparel company, Rocawear. In 2006, Rocawear was sold to a brand licensing company for $204 million.

There's been much more: a line of sneakers for Reebok, the 40/40 nightclub chain, an ad for Hewlett-Packard, and an interest in the hot New York City gastro pub, The Spotted Pig.

Jay-Z's career and business interests are vivid testimony to the mainstreaming of hip-hop culture. Deals come his way in part because he is, simply put, much cooler and culturally relevant than older guys in suits. It's not simply that he can attract a crowd, but that he lends a kind of legitimacy to all sorts of ventures — including the efforts to build a huge arena/ development to house the New Jersey Nets in Brooklyn. The New Jersey Nets, as Greenburg notes, had long been a second-tier team in the NBA, and an afterthought in New York. Facing political obstacles and community opposition, Nets owner Bruce Ratner offered Jay-Z a small ownership stake in exchange for becoming one of the public faces of the project. Another potential bonus: the other owners thought Jay-Z could help attract top talent like LeBron James to the Nets.

That hasn't quite worked out. And, of course, as is the case with most serial entrepreneurs, Jay-Z has had his share of business setbacks. He spent a fair amount of time last decade working on a Jay-Z Jeep, which fell apart due to issues at Chrysler. A GMC Yukon painted Jay-Z blue never got beyond the concept car stage. As Greenburg notes, the singer makes a strong effort not to highlight failures. "He doesn't want to be seen as anything other than victorious." Greenburg adds: "Even Jay-Z fails, but that doesn't make him any less of a businessman."

So what's next? Despite all his operations, music and performing remain at the core of his business, and of his brand. And here he faces something of a challenge. In rock and pop, it's not uncommon for groups and singers to fill big arenas well into their 60s — the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, even Neil Diamond (who is now 70!). But hip-hop is a much younger genre, and Jay-Z is already 41. "He's the first guy who is going to be out there and seeing what the market is for aging rappers," said Greenburg. "But if he wants to tour all the time like the Stones do, he could certainly do that."

Jay-Z has succeeded in part because of a tough-minded mentality that make him insist that he own a part of any operations he's involved with. And that explains in part why he and his team didn't cooperate with this book. When he signed his book contract, Greenburg went to Jay-Z's team, sought interviews, and explained the book as a business success story that "would put him up in the pantheon with Warren Buffett and Steve jobs." Came the response: "What's in it for us?" He didn't want to help with the production of a book that he wouldn't partially own. Besides, he was working on his own book. When it was published last November Decoded debuted as #3 on the New York Times best-seller list.

The scene for the MOGUL and his crew is typically fashion forward, music filled, and great fun.  Getting together for us is award winning.  So we venture out to the hot spots and the lesser known spots as well, to keep balance. I mean housed our position and stood there with the hottest ladies in the place.  When I heard Jaquar Wright was the featured performer I knew I had to be there,

Any of you that are familiar with my past know that from the time of UnSung Radio and The Untamed Tounges Poetry Lounge I hammered alot of Wright's music.  She is one hell of a show! Yeah, she didin't sing my song "Do Your Worst", but she rocked it!

These gatherings are sexy and definitely a place for the crew. So get out and show some love. Ryan Leslie is the dude for next show on April 1st so get there. A.W.T. Out!

Do Men Want To Date Successful Women?

Yeah I know, this isn't a dating site or some type of matchmaker forum.  What this site is is a lifestyle blog for those living or desiring to live the MOGUL life.  That said, when you flip through the posts on blog you will find several posts on different aspects of the life from fashion and entertainment to travel and dining (includes the best cocktails).  My audience is mostly women on top of their games and a few that are venturing to be that MOGUL chick.  So I did this for those with the myths in mind that men are intimidated by successful women.  B to the S! I've always said it and here is an article from a male matchmaker that defends my thought process. Richard Easton is a successful New York matchmaker.

Richard Easton is a matchmaking expert

What do men really want in women? It’s a question that’s beguiled doers and thinkers alike for centuries.

In this hyper-paced world of bars, clubs and online dating, PrettyYoungProfessional went to Richard Easton, the male matchmaker with the inside scoop, to find out what men really want. Smart, successful women: read on.

Why do we feel that men are not attracted to successful women?“I hear this question all the time,” says Easton. “It simply isn’t true. Men love successful women, just not the high testosterone levels that sometimes accompany their success.” From his perspective, it’s not success that men are afraid of; it’s how a woman acts that can turn off a potential suitor.

At work, women are often pushed to behave more like men to succeed: be aggressive, be direct, even confrontational at times. Men want to see that a powerful woman can turn off her “work” mode and embrace her femininity when she leaves the office.

Easton believes that this isn’t misaligned with what women themselves want: “Women want to be feminine and treated like a lady. Men want to see childhood faith and openness to falling in love together.”

That childhood faith or innocence in love is an important one: “A man can spot bitterness immediately,” says Easton. “He can also tell if someone is emotionally unavailable, so unless you are truly ready for a new romance, don’t waste his time. You wouldn’t want him wasting yours, either.”

How do you suggest women then transition from work to a date? “Don’t treat dating like finding a job,” says Easton. “When you go on a date, let go of your work day, change your mindset, and refresh your look. Changing clothes between work and a date can help you get out of the “work” mentality. If you have time, go home, take a shower, and start over. I always suggest the same for men.”

“During the date, be engaged—men can sense when a woman is distracted. Dating and getting to know someone should be fun and exciting, not something else to cross off your to do list,” says Easton.

Once you arrive, Easton suggests you consciously make an effort to leave the perfect man checklist at home: “Don’t walk into a date with an agenda, don’t have a checklist, and don’t interview your date.”A man can tell if you are consciously or even subconsciously checking off your “perfect man” criteria. “Look at a first date in the most fun way possible and let the conversation go wherever it takes you. The perfect first date leaves many unanswered questions for next time. Get to know the person. The guy you might have written off in the first few minutes just might turn out to be the love of your life. Give the guy a decent chance.”

Looks or chemistry? What matters most?

Whether we like it or not, our society is obsessed with outward appearance. Easton doesn’t deny that looks are important, but his experience suggests that physical attractiveness is just as important to women as it is to men—and that’s ok.

But Easton is also adamant that, in order to build a long term relationship, you need chemistry, which may not develop within the first five minutes of your first date. “Chemistry and visual attraction are not the same thing. True chemistry is built from a combination of sexual compatibility, sense of humor, and other intangibles, which makes it ever more important to give your date a chance. What if the guy is slow to warm up but ends up funny as a comedian?”

So what makes a man commit? According to Easton, “a man does not ask a woman to marry him because he wants to spend the rest of his life with her; he asks her to marry him because he does not want to spend the rest of his life without her. If you are that woman, the one he cannot live without, he’ll find his way to the altar. I’ve seen it a thousand times.”

So there you have it: the male matchmaker’s perspective on romance for professional women. Now go have some fun with it!

Will Chris Brown Be Returning To GMA For a Second Interview?

Recording Artist Chris Brown

Despite the alleged tossing of a water cooler through a dressing room window and mad outburst by platinum recording artist Chris Brown, Good Morning America and Robin Lewis says they will gladly have him back to talk with him. “We wish him the absolute best and again we've extended the invitation to him and I sure hope that he takes us up on it, because I'd love to have another chat with him.” says Miss Roberts.

It seems Chris Brown will never be able to shake the press and a curious world on his altercation with Rihanna.  To add insult to injury, photos of a battered Rihanna surfaced the day of F.A.M.E.'s  release. One would think that he would've realized that an outburst like this would tarnish his career.  I heard him interviewed on The Russ Parr Morning Show where he admitted that any small negative outburst from him would be insurmountable.  I really can't understand why he would result to doing just that.

Brown pleaded guilty to felony and accepted a plea deal of community labor and five years formal probation

Breezy's fans were heated so this may be the reason for the unsuspected re-invite, and Brown's mother Joyce Hawkins, says she's "very disturbed and upset" about her son's behavior.  According to TMZ no charges will be filed against Chris Brown and NYPD are not investigating because no one is complaining.  Lets see what happens next.

Chris Brown's Alleged Breakdown On Good Morning America

Chris Brown is definitely a certified star that has fallen and re-emerged.  I rooted for Chris as I enjoyed his mixtape with notorious Gangsta Grillz DJ Drama entitles "In My Zone".  Chris rocked it and I still pop that CD in.  I didn't want to believe that this budding star would thow his career away by assaulting Rihanna and was glad to see it go away. Of course these questions will resurface making it hard to move on, and yes Chris, I don't want to hear them anymore either, but the nature of the beast is people love drama.  Look at Nene from the Atlanta House wives, or the Basketball Wives.  America can't get enough of BS.  I mean Charlie Sheen is seeing the climax of his career right now.

I don't know what his rants behind scenes and smashing windows will do, but I do know it makes a hefty job for his team of PR professionals.  Brown tweeted at 9:49 a.m., “I’m so over people bringing this past s**t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there bulls**t.”

That ill-advised tweet was quickly removed and followed up with this fan-friendly message: “All my fans!!! This album is for you and only you!!! I’m so tired of everyone else!! Honestly!! I love team breezy!!”

He tweeted a similar message moments later, “#FAMEnumber1 I love all my fans and teambreezy!!! I hope this album is everything you wanted!”

Roberts took to her Twitter account to react to Brown's outburst, writing, "Sure has been an interesting AM @GMA. Still sorting thru everything myself. Just my 2nd day on twitter, wonder what tomorrow will bring?"

Another source stated "After Robin got a lot of criticism for [not pressing] Tiger [Woods], she pressed him. She was concerned after she was slammed for that. Chris thought he'd be asked one question, not pressed on it. They say, 'We'll ask you one Rihanna question,' but she kept asking follow-ups. He got off and went crazy.

Sources told People a similar story, with an eyewitness adding, "He was visibly upset and appeared livid after the interview."

Chris' new album F.A.M.E. dropped today, lets see how the sells mount.  See you at the top Breezy!

Album released 3.22.11 in stores now

The Runway Was Ripped Last Night, RIP THE RUNWAY Was the Culprit...

Actor, model, and rip the runway host mehcad Brooks
So I had been anticipating BET's Rip The Runway.  Waiting to see what these designers will throw down, what the musicians are going to pull out there hats, and what production and swag would grace the runway.  Mehcad Brooks and Selita Ebanks were both dapper and donesque.  I do have to say they weren't fluid though. Didn't mesh well. But not too much where it took away from the show.

Victoria's Secret Model and Rip The Runway Hostess Selita Ebanks

The Pretty Girl took lead with designer Rachel Roy.  Colorful and a bold shoe collection coined Rachel. Keri has great stage presence and didn't fail to entertain.

Hatian designer WISB brought us an earth friendly, traditonal yet edgy line.  Head wraps were a trend in his show with the New Boyz.

Lloyd introduced the plus sized segment, or as I would like to call it, "Our Curvey Fetish" and ain't nothin wrong wit dat! Tenille White accentuated the most beautiful parts of a woman's body in this classy woman strut.

Producer, artist extraordinaire Pharrell
Man Vs Machine adorned the runway next with the likes of Melanie Fiona and a fashionable look at the skaters wardrobe. From business to play you can maintain your image. This is something I've preached over and over, jus sayin. Kanye shrug.

Pittsburgh's Own Wiz Khalifa

This kid Wiz Khalifah has taken the hip hop world by storm. Making all the right connects. Hats off bruh.  He didn't front when he rolled up on fashion designer, hostess, Super Model Selita Ebanks.

OMG, Lawd Hah Murcy! Girl You Be Killen Em!  Lila Nikole Damn sure kept my attention with the hot swimsuit line. Repreenting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida I give shouts to Broward County's own. lol

Laquan Smith of Queens, New York Ripped The Runway with Miguel's International Baby tune.  With lights and futuristic costumes the runway was ignited with a stunning cast of models.

Addidas' "Respect Me" by Missey Elliott

All in all I enjoyed the production and thought the fashion tips and P.A.'s by Selita and Mehcad were on time. A hygiene lesson for the guys spoke volumes. Are we really having to give a lesson on hygiene to grown men? I guess so.  Until next time.

Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean was shot in the hand Saturday night on the eve of Haiti's presidential runoff election.

A spokesman for the singer said it was a minor graze to the hand of the Haitian-born star who has been campaigning for presidential contender Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly in a race that has been tainted by fraud, violence and a number of irregularities.

Details of the shooting were not immediately clear.

Jean himself tried to run for president last year but was barred by Haiti's electoral commission, which said he was ineligible because he has been living in the United States.

Since then, he has thrown his clout behind Martelly, 50, a musician-turned-politician, who is facing former first lady and university professor Mirlande Manigat, 70.

Sunday's runoff vote is seen by many as a major step forward in rebuilding Haiti, following the January 2010 earthquake that killed 200,000 and has left a million Haitians living in tent camps.

Haiti’s first round of voting in November was problem plagued from the start. Haitians arrived at polls to find names missing from voter rolls and some ballot boxes dumped. Haitians rioted.
